Medically Assisted
Klonopin Detox

Are you or someone you love considering a Klonopin detox? Klonopin is a potent and extremely habit-forming prescription sedative, one most commonly prescribed for the treatment of anxiety disorders, seizure disorders and panic disorder. Klonopin is a benzodiazepine, meaning that associated withdrawal symptoms can be extremely severe — even life-threatening when left untreated. At CuraSouth our team of dedicated medical and clinical professionals has extensive experience treating all symptoms associated with Klonopin withdrawal efficiently and effectively. The level of care we provide cannot be found in any state-funded detox facility or traditional hospital setting. In addition to providing around-the-clock medical care and treating each symptom the moment it arises, we offer a wide range of additional services and amenities geared toward client comfort. We believe that medical detox should focus on more than physical stabilization. In order for detox to be truly effective, it should pave the road for continuous success in sobriety by introducing clients to the tools and skills they need to avoid relapse and continue on with the next appropriate level of clinical care. If you or someone you love has been suffering at the hands of a Klonopin abuse disorder of any severity, medical detox is the necessary first step. What is Klonopin?

Klonopin is the brand name of the generic drug clonazepam. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, clonazepam is generally used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, though it can also be prescribed for the treatment of sleep-related issues (like insomnia) and for the treatment of severe symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal. NAMI also suggests that individuals who take clonazepam exactly as prescribed are at risk of experiencing several known side effects, including dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, fatigue, a lack of coordination and difficulty concentrating. Even when this medication is taken at the appropriate dose for a relatively short period of time, physical and psychological dependence has been known to occur.

An article published by the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine titled, “Prescription Sedative Misuse and Abuse” explains that in order for Klonopin addiction treatment to be truly effective it must combine hospitalization (during withdrawal) with ongoing behavioral counseling and relapse prevention training. The article mentions that the most effective methods of prescription sedative withdrawal are often tapering and an extended stay at an inpatient detox facility, where symptoms can be closely monitored. At CuraSouth we offer an integrated detox program that focuses on effective treatment and preparing each client for the next appropriate level of clinical care.

Klonopin Addiction
Signs & Symptoms

If you believe that you or someone you love has been abusing Klonopin, there are several telltale signs and symptoms to look for. Keep in mind that Klonopin dependence can occur even if an individual is taking the medication as prescribed.

Symptoms of Klonopin abuse and addiction include:

  • Taking more Klonopin than prescribed on a regular basis
  • Attempting to cut back on the dose or quit taking Klonopin altogether, but being unable to do so for an extended period of time
  • Continuing to abuse the medication despite a range of personal consequences, which could include legal or financial problems or interpersonal issues
  • Engaging in drug-seeking behavior, which could include “doctor shopping” (attempting to obtain more than one Klonopin prescription at a time)
  • Experiencing intense psychological drug cravings
  • A lack of motivation to fulfill personal obligations or carry out personal responsibilities
  • A decreased performance at work or at school
  • A lack of interest in hobbies or activities that were previously enjoyed
  • More time spent isolating from friends or family members
  • Significant changes to mood, usually marked by agitation or irritability
  • Developing a physical tolerance over time, meaning that a higher dose of Klonopin is required in order for the desired effects to be produced
  • Experiencing symptoms of withdrawal when Klonopin use is abruptly stopped

Klonopin Withdrawal
Signs & Symptoms

Common symptoms associated with Klonopin withdrawal include:

  • Severely disrupted sleep patterns and persistent insomnia
  • Gastrointestinal issues including decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
  • Significant changes to mood or psychological state, which can include irritability, agitation, extreme anxiety (and panic attacks) or severe depression
  • Uncontrollable shaking and body tremors
  • Increased heart rate and heart palpitations
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Changes to breathing patterns, including trouble breathing and respiratory depression
  • Auditory and visual hallucinations and delusions
  • Feelings of detachment from reality
  • Moderate or severe seizures, including grand mal seizures

While the symptoms associated with Klonopin withdrawal can be severe, they are treatable. Medical detox is always a necessary first step on the long-term road of Klonopin addiction recovery.

Why is Klonopin Detox Necessary?

When it comes to Klonopin abuse, medical detox is always necessary — even if the medication was being abused for a short period of time. The associated withdrawal symptoms are extremely unpredictable, and it is better if no chances are taken when it comes to potential health-related complications. If you have been abusing Klonopin it is crucial that you never attempt to quit cold turkey. Attempting to do this — or attempting to detox in an at-home setting — can be life-threatening.

Klonopin Detox
Treatment Options

One of the most effective ways to treat Klonopin withdrawal is by slowly tapering the client off of the medication over the period of roughly one week. Tapering is a method of reducing symptoms associated with benzodiazepine withdrawal by slowly weaning a client off of the drug over a short period of time. Quitting Klonopin cold turkey can be extremely dangerous, and can easily result in severe complications – including grand mal seizures. Over time the body adjusts to a smaller and smaller  dose of the drug, until the system is completely detoxed.

When it comes to effectively treating the more severe symptoms associated with Klonopin withdrawal, Medication Assisted Treatment is often necessary.

The medications we utilize for Klonopin detox include:

  • Antidepressants
  • Anti-anxiety medications
  • Anti-nausea medications
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers (non-narcotic)
  • Non-addictive sleep aids

Treatment methods vary on a person-to-person basis, and treatment plans are continuously adjusted and modified to cater to the specific needs of each individual client.

Our Simple Admissions Process

At CuraSouth we are dedicated to making the entire early recovery process as simple and uncomplicated as possible, from the admissions process through developing a plan for continuing care. The moment you or your loved one picks up the phone and calls us, we begin by conducting a brief pre-assessment that helps our clinical team determine which methods of Klonopin detox are going to be the most effective for each unique case. Once the pre-assessment is complete we begin exploring potential coverage options. At CuraSouth we work closely with most major regional and national health insurance providers, and we conduct free, no obligation benefit checks in order to determine how many of our Klonopin detox services are covered either partially or in full. If you or your loved one is either uninsured or underinsured we offer a range of alternative options – including self-pay and private pay. Once coverage is determined we set a date and a time for intake and help arrange reliable transportation whenever necessary. Our main priority is getting you or your loved one admitted as quickly as possible – when it comes to Klonopin withdrawal, there is truly no time to wait.

At CuraSouth we believe that medical detox should provide more than around-the-clock medical care, and should work towards more than physical stabilization. While providing a safe and pain-free Klonopin withdrawal is our top priority, we also work to pave the road for continued success in sobriety. We achieve this goal by offering a wide range of recovery-related services and resources, from a thorough 12-step program education to individual and group therapy sessions.
