Like the rest of the country, the State of Florida has seen a dramatic rise in drug and alcohol use and overdoses in recent years, further worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, 7,579 people died due to drug overdoses in Florida, making the state the second-highest in the nation for substance-related fatalities, preceded only by California. This represents a 37% increase from 2019. (1)

Choosing a Drug & Alcohol Rehab Center in Harbor Bluffs, FL

Deciding on a substance misuse treatment center requires gathering certain information from each facility you’re exploring, especially if this is the first time you’ve received treatment in the area. However, high-quality centers should offer the following features:

  • Accredited and licensed by the State of Florida or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
  • Licensed and experienced healthcare professionals, addiction specialists, and other clinicians.
  • Comprehensive, integrated programs.
  • Medical detox and medication-assisted treatment.
  • Dual-diagnosis treatment, including physical and mental health conditions in addition to substance use disorders.
  • Multiple levels of care, such as inpatient and outpatient programs and aftercare.
  • Evidence-based treatment strategies, such as individual therapy, family therapy, and motivational interviewing.
  • Acceptance of major and regional health insurance carriers or Medicaid/Medicare, whatever is applicable.
  • Low client-to-staff ratio.

Detox & Rehab Options in Harbor Bluffs, Florida

Reputable medical detox and rehab facilities, such as CuraSouth, offer multiple step down levels of care, beginning with intervention, if necessary, and a straightforward admission process, ending with a well-developed aftercare plan.

Intervention

An intervention is a staged meeting initiated by family and friends of an individual with a substance use problem. They are typically led by a therapist or addiction specialist who can guide the process and ensure the conversation is productive and not combative. The goal of this process is for the person’s loved ones to express how their addiction has affected them and convince them to get treatment.

Medical Detox

Medical detox is the safest and most comfortable way to go through withdrawal. During this process, patients are supervised by health providers around-the-clock and administered medication to improve mood and reduce unpleasant withdrawal symptoms and the risk of severe complications.

Residential & Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient treatment is the most intensive level of care in which patients remain at the facility exclusively and receive long-term treatment and support. Stays can last anywhere from 30 days to one year, depending on the client’s needs and individual circumstances. These programs are highly-structured, and clients are assigned daily schedules to participate in evidence-based treatments and services, including various therapies, group support meetings, and holistic activities.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment consists of three levels of care, beginning with partial hospitalization (PHP) and decreasing in intensity.

PHP often follows inpatient treatment and typically requires participation 5-6 days per week. PHP therapies and services are similar to those provided by inpatient care, but clients don’t stay overnight and therefore have more freedom and accountability.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) meet 3-5 hours daily, 3-5 days weekly. This level of care requires less participation but still offers many of the same treatment modalities as higher levels of care.

Standard outpatient programs are the lowest level of care. Patients are almost entirely independent and accountable for their sobriety and may only meet for sessions on a weekly or monthly basis.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Early in medical detox, clinicians often use various medications to improve a patient’s mood, comfort, and safety. This can also address and prevent complications, such as high blood pressure and rapid heart rate. Following detox, MAT can benefit clients in recovery from opioids and alcohol. The Food and Drug Association has approved three medications for the treatment of opioids—naltrexone, methadone, and Suboxone. Naltrexone can also be used to treat alcohol dependence, along with acamprosate and disulfiram.

Substance Use Disorder Program Costs in Harbor Bluffs, Florida

Many individuals may avoid substance use treatment due to feeling overwhelmed by the costs. Below are various options regarding funding to aid you in identifying the one best suited for you.

Privately Funded

Privately funded programs provide the most treatment options depending on the client’s finances. Privately funded treatment is paid for by the client, either out of pocket or through their private insurance company.

Public & State Funded

Public and state funded programs can be essential for individuals who cannot afford treatment. Although these options are more cost-effective than privately funded, the trade-off is that treatment plans tend to be less individualized and rely more on one standard of care for everyone.

Insurance Based

Employers commonly offer private insurance, but it can also be obtained through Healthcare.gov, also known as Obamacare. Most private treatment centers accept major or regional carriers, and copays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket expenses vary between policies. Contacting a treatment center is the best way to determine if they accept a particular carrier and what treatment costs are and are not covered.

Medicaid & Medicare

Medicaid is a federal program providing individuals with health insurance. Medicaid is low costs, but states can impose copayments, deductibles, and other charges on Medicaid-covered services such as inpatient and outpatient treatment for substance misuse. Amounts charged vary with income. All out-of-pocket expenses are based on the individual state’s payment for that service.

Medicare is similar to Medicaid but for people aged 65 years or older or with certain health conditions. The program’s objective is to help older adults pay healthcare expenses, but also, like Medicaid, it is not entirely free. Each part of Medicare has different costs, including copays, deductibles, and monthly premiums.
