Addiction Recovery Resources
Professional Intervention Services

If you have been watching someone you love struggle with addiction, you have likely tried everything imaginable to push them in the direction of recovery. At CuraSouth we understand that there are few things as difficult as feeling you have run out of options and you have nowhere left to turn. We also believe in the efficacy of professionally staged interventions, which often mean the difference between continued substance use and entry into an addiction treatment and recovery program.

If someone you love has been struggling with addiction and consistently refuses treatment, we are available to help. We work directly with several experienced interventionists in Tampa Bay, Florida who are ready and available to work with anyone in need of assistance. The interventionists we work with are able to travel anywhere in the U.S. on relatively short notice and help you take the steps necessary to help your loved one. What is an Intervention?

An intervention is a carefully planned event geared towards helping prompt an addict or alcoholic to seek professional treatment. Interventions typically involve a small, intimate group of family members and close friends who have been directly impacted by the substance abuse disorder. During the intervention, specific examples of self-destructive behaviors are openly shared, treatment options are presented and boundaries are clearly laid out. Consequences are also communicated, and if the subject of the intervention refuses treatment on the day of the event the consequences must be upheld. The goal is to encourage the individual to seek treatment willingly by making the process of getting to treatment as simple and accessible as possible.

Steps for Staging an Intervention

  • An interventionist is contacted – At CuraSouth we are happy to put you in contact with a professional interventionist as soon as you reach out. We work with professionals who have extremely high success rates and have been doing interventions for decades. They know how to break through to individuals struggling with addiction.
Professionally staged interventions
  • Information is gathered – The interventionist speaks one-on-one with you and/or your family, gathering pertinent information to clarify the individual needs of your loved one. They might ask questions like, “How long has your loved one been abusing chemical substances, and what kinds?” ‘Has your loved one ever been diagnosed with a mental illness like anxiety or depression?” “Has your loved one ever attempted to get sober in the past?” These questions (and more) make for more focused treatment options.
  • A plan is developed – The plan includes specifics like where the intervention is going to take place, how the addict or alcoholic is going to be transported to the event and who is going to be directly involved. Having a plan is very important to the success of the event.
  • The intervention team is formed/letters are written – Interventions should be small and limited to people who have regular interactions with the subject. For example, immediate family members, grandparents and close friends. It is important for the intervention team to be made up of people that the subject knows and trusts. Each member of the team writes out a letter that includes the ways in which they have been personally impacted by the addictive disorder.
  • The treatment center is decided upon – Before the intervention takes place the interventionist will help you come up with a plan of action as far as which treatment center is going to be presented the day of the event. In some cases the treatment journey begins with admission to a medical detox center like CuraSouth and the individual transitions into a higher level of care once the withdrawal process concludes. The interventionist will help you find a treatment program that best suits the unique needs of your loved one.
  • Consequences are outlined – If your loved one refuses to accept the treatment you offer, they are presented with consequences. These consequences should be clearly outlined during the event and strictly upheld afterwards. For example, you might say something like, “If you refuse to accept treatment today you will have to find somewhere else to live; we can no longer condone your self-destructive behaviors under our roof.” Or, “If you refuse medical detox today we are no longer going to offer you any financial support or assistance. You are going to have to fend for yourself.”
  • The intervention is held – During the intervention the letters are read aloud, consequences are clearly outlined and treatment options are presented. The subject of the intervention is presented with the opportunity to enter into a program of recovery as soon as the event concludes. Transportation has been worked out and is ready to go.
  • The interventionist follows up regardless of the outcome – Interventions often provide the push a person needs to commit to recovery. However, there is always a chance that your loved one will refuse treatment. The interventionist helps you prepare for every potential outcome and follows up with you regularly.

Benefits of an Intervention

Benefits of Hosting a Professionally Staged Intervention:

  • It helps to have an unbiased and experienced professional present at the event. In many cases, the family unit is completely devastated by months or years of active addiction. Your loved one gets accustomed to emotionally manipulating you in order to get what they want. Having someone who is not part of the immediate family present to facilitate the event is often extremely beneficial.
  • The interventionist is going to help you choose the best detox facility and treatment center for your loved one. With so many potential options to choose from, finding the perfect rehab center can be daunting. The interventionist alleviates this stress while offering their expertise.
  • Staging a professional intervention is a great way to show your loved one that help is available whenever they decide to seek it. Even if you have offered your loved one help in the past, having a tangible solution laid out before them might make all the difference.
  • The interventionist helps you prepare for any outcome. They offer you a list of resources in your area geared towards helping you take steps to help yourself.
  • They offer valuable insight and advice even after the event is over, regardless of whether or not it was effective. Remember even if your loved one refuses treatment, a seed was undeniably planted.
